It’s not my job!
Word’s that can be spoken far too often especially when it comes to building sites, I’ve never ever understood this mentality. We’re all working towards a common goal so why not work together to achieve it? It makes life easier at the end of the day….
Speaking from a personal perspective, there is nothing worse than attending site to install a cabinet and someone has put something right in the way, for example, a power socket, an access hatch or ventilation grille, knowing full well that there is a cabinet going there….. But, “Cabinets? Not my job mate!” So we turn up and then spend time arranging for and waiting for these things to be moved. We could just fit it over the top because: “Yeah, not my job to get it moved” But down the road it will need to get moved, whether you fit it knowing that a cabinet is going there or you fit the cabinet over it, it’s all extra work that can be avoided if you just ask the question and work together.
I endorse and promote a team culture at JFW Ltd, it is understood that everyone’s job is also everyone else’s job, if someone is struggling to meet a deadline or something has gone wrong other members of the team will step in to help where they can. The attitude of “not my job, you fix it” is not acceptable. One day you may need help and you won’t be pleased to hear, “Not my job mate”.
Job sites work so much better when everyone communicates and works together, when tradies take a minute to check things and consider other contractors when carrying out their work it saves others and themselves time and unnecessary effort down the line.
I hope this is food for thought, consider the next guy or girl when doing your job, because you never know how it will come back around, but I guarantee it will be positive.
