LOCKDOWN

HERE WE GO AGAIN

So, lockdown….. AGAIN!  A little bit different from last time as instead of us all being furloughed we are permitted to keep on working.  We can’t build counters and cabinets at home so we don’t have much choice, we’ll just have to do the best we can to stay safe in our workshop.  Paula has worked hard to ensure we are safe, with cleaning routines, hand wash and sanitizer, digital thermometer on entry and a system for track and trace.  I feel this really does make us Covid Secure!

After our hectic summer it was nice to gather our thoughts and spend a bit of time working on our new unit – Unit 4.  We’ve been moving stairs and building walls to accommodate new office space for our use and for rental, also more workshop space for building furniture.  I’ll explain more in a future post……..

In the past week or so we’ve had the go ahead on a few projects and approval for manufacture on some others, we have made a start on a couple of them but lockdown is making it a tad awkward to get materials, but we will persevere.  Aside from finishing up on a very large job for a care home in Brackley for Deeley Construction, we have a very large reception counter in Unit 5 for a Dog’s Trust centre in Darlington, which should have been fitted in May but with everything going on it was shelved, but Owen and Lee are making good progress on that now we have received the laminate, I’ll have more info on that in another blog.  Danny is juggling a few jobs as usual, an extremely complicated counter for the charity Mind, he is also setting out the Covid-19 Screens for all the Ben’s Cookies stores, not an easy task when these stores are always an awkward shape and size!  Dexter is working on a hardwood door and frame after finishing a nice little domestic project which comprised of a fitted wardrobe and floating shelves, we installed these on Wednesday. Josh and Charlie are honing their ever developing skills in Unit 4 and loving every minute of it.  Not so much when I force them to use hand tools instead of power tools……. They’ve got to learn!  In the meantime I’m doing my best to keep up with drawings for the guys on the shop floor and for customers, enquiries are still coming in at a steady rate so confidence is still there……  With winter looming and potential future lockdowns we just have to make the best of what we have.

Reception counter for the charity Mind, this will hopefully be installed mid December.
Drawings for both approval and fabrication for a job at Johnsons Jewellers in Nuneaton which will take us up to Christmas.

Hopefully this new lockdown won’t last too long and we can get back to normal very soon, but in the meantime it’s business as usual at JFW Ltd.

I hope you can all stay safe and well!
