It’s official: Christmas has begun at John F. White Ltd, because the Coventry Nativity Crib is back in place for another year.
For over 20 years, putting up the Nativity has been our quiet little tradition, the moment the season really starts for us. We fetch the components from storage, re-learn which screw goes where, wrestle that famously heavy roof into position, and give everything a quick tidy before handing it over to the church to add the finishing touches.
I feel I must mention this as we were all absolutely buzzing when the lock worked first time, usually we are playing around with it for ages!
It’s a short job, but a welcomed one. A chance for the team to get out of the workshop together, thaw our hands on hot coffees, and share a few laughs over a bacon roll before the year’s final push.
So if you’re in Coventry over the next few weeks, keep an eye out in the city centre, you’ll see our little wooden landmark standing proud once again.
